Duthie Mine - Hudson Bay Mountain
So My Dad and I set out on an adventure today and we ended up on opposite sides of the valley. We started out heading to Hunters Basin partly because we didn’t know you couldn’t go in there till July 15th. We made it as far as the creek crossing took the foot bridge across and followed a short trail to where the road is on the other side of the creek. There’s a huge yellow sign saying no access with all sorts of info on it. So we will try this one again.
Duthie mine trail ended up winning out after trying to decided where to go. So after driving back across the valley and up the ski hill. We started hiking thru a cut block this part of the trail is not well flagged. So if you want to go up Duthie West head to the northwest corner of the cut block ( left side) If you want to go to the mine you can either start up Duthie west trail and cut over or you can go to the northeast side of the cut block to the top. you will see another small cut block again go to the northeast corner there’s a tree stump about 6 feet high with an orange flagging tape around it. Right above that is the trail which goes to a creek one way or up behind the cut block. Don’t go to the creek it doesn’t go any farther. Also you’ll get to a stop in the tail where it turns right and you’ll see a rusty metal cable with flagging on it. if you continue down this trail it takes you to the mine camp remains and continues on this trail only goes along side the mountain and does not go up to the mine itself. To get to the mine on that same corner go straight thru the bush a few feet and you’ll see the road continue up stay on this one. Dad and I went to the camp and continued on to White Swan Creek had lunch and came back. After the camp the trail is flagged not maintained at all and steep in sections. Trail missing in spots. Literally climbing under and over massive windfall. This trail joins up with more further down that you can either go up or come down behind the tailing ponds and then walk back up the road to where you parked. We hiked for 1.5hrs to get to the creek less then that to get back. I don't know how long this trail is I didn't have my gps on.
