So this hike was stunning. We booked 2 nights up at the lakes with the plan to do day hike on our second day. The trail is well marked and looks like an old road. There’s outhouses at the start then at the junction for the winter route and then again up at the lakes. During the week there’s definitely less people up there and we had left Vancouver early because of reports the parking lot would be full by 8am. That was not the case. There was maybe 10 cars when we arrived. The hike it’s self wasn’t steep or technical was a steady grade then it flattens out and then goes down to the lakes. We passed a few people heading down. Had our choice of tent pads and there are 35 tent pads available. Bugs were a bit annoying but weren’t too bad during the hike as long as you didn't stop for too long. At camp they were bad in the evening. There’s picnic tables, bear hangs, place to hang out and eat in. You can swim in the top lake and the bottom one is for drinking. I wadded into the lake but it was cool when we got up there. We picked out our pad and set up camp. Just relaxed had a snack laid in the sun when it finally came out. Wandered around the lakes and the ranger stations. Shannon napped. I scouted the hike for the next day which was gargoyle peak. There was still snow on parts of the trail coming upstarting at a higher elevation and there was snow around the lakes. This was an unusual year for the amount of snow pack these mountains got over the winter. We did end up bringing our micro spikes with us just in case but we didnt need them. It took us 3.5 hours up about 10.5km. We stopped lots and took tons of pictures.
